The Last Days Before Japan!

Hello again, so it is now just over 7 days till I fly, and the nerves are starting to kick off now. So, this is the end of my blog until I get to Japan or at least until I hit Abu Dhabi.

Sendai – Modern city founded in 1600 by Daimyo Date Masamune and is famous for Sushi and Sake

Because it is a long way to where I am going from Iwaki via train, I decided it would be good to use the city of Sendai as a way stop in between and have a look around as well. It has a massive nightlife district with loads of restaurants and bars (about 3000), A history with the Edo Period as the city was founded by Date Masamune and there are museums and sites you can visit dedicated to him. There is also an awareness centre dedicated to the 2011 Tohoku earthquake (9.0 magnitude) of which crippled the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant and Sendai was the closest major city to epicentre.

For Sendai I don’t really have an itinerary, but depending on time, the history with Date Masamune would be something that I will be looking at. Where I will be staying there, this will also mark a maybe fun experience for me as I will be staying in a capsule hotel

Lake Towada – A Lovely spot on the top of an active stratovolcano

To get here it is time to switch my rails for roads. To get there it is a 1–2-hour train journey from Sendai to Hachinohe city and from there, rent a car and take a 1–2-hour journey west up into the mountains to the lovely 4-star Prince Towada Hotel.

Current plan for Lake Towada excursion:
Go to Mount Iwaki nearby and go up the Tsuguru Iwaki Skyline (69 hairpin bends going part way up the mountain and then climb the rest of the way
Go to a nearby castle
And go kayaking (or something similar) on Lake Towada, part of an active volcano’s caldera (can you say you have done that before? also don’t worry, ferry’s go across all the time)

After a fun packed day, it is time to rest before going back to Tokyo for my final night in Japan.
