Back to Japan – Osaka and Kagoshima

Please note that with the current climate in the middle east, I am unsure if I will be going via Abu Dhabi or if I will be going via Finair.

Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog, with 118 days left to go till i got back to Japan, we are going to talk about some of the things that I am doing while I am out there.

This time, Tokyo is not the place I am going to, but Osaka is, but still via Abu Dhabi Airport. Kansai International Airport is the main Airport there which is in the bay on an artificial island. Fun fact through is that the airport is slowly sinking at a rate of about 2.3 inches per year and by the year 2056 it is expected that part of the airport could fall below sea level.

It is better, this time landing in Japan than, the last time I did because, I had to get a train, then another train and then another train to finally get to the hotel. This time, I can just get one train directly to Osaka station and then walk to my hotel which is only about 10 mins away. I have learnt my lesson this time and every hotel that I have booked has 2 things: Breakfast included and hot springs at the hotel. If a hotel didn’t include either of them, then it wasn’t considered.

While in Osaka, I will be doing the Mario Kart around the Osaka area, taking a train to Nagoya to go and see a Sumo Tournament as well.

Now, on this trip, I was debating where in Japan to go that is different from where I went last time and to put in rest days and plan my days out a bit better so that I’m not trying to do too much in them and to also travel between new places less.

One of the places that got chosen at random is Kagoshima, which is on a bay and have an active volcano across it called Sakurajima.

One of the days there will see me going on a spirit of the samurai tour around Kagoshima. Fun fact: did you know that the film “The Last Samurai” with Tom Cruise in it, is based on real life events and Kagoshima are where the leader of the Satsuma Rebellion Saigo Takamori was born and died. One of the days there, I will be doing a self-guided Last Samurai experience day, which involves going round to different ruins, places like where Saigo died and some caves where he and his men hid.

Whilst in Kagoshima I will also be looking at some museums, going to Jigenji Park and going over the Japan’s most active volcano just across the bay, called Sakurajima and it has been almost constantly erupting since 1955.

Please join me next time as I talk about the next places I will be going to, including the 7 hells!
